The Doghouse Story: A fun way to learn the notes on the piano!

This is a story that my husband heard while attending Utah State University. He told it to me and I thought it was a very clever way to help kids (or even adults!) learn the notes on the piano. I had heard so many variations of how to read notes on a grand staff but never anything on learning where those notes were on the piano keyboard. When my husband started teaching huge classes of beginner students at the schools I decided to help him make the story a little more entertaining and illustrated it. Although, his stick figure grandmother was quite a sight to behold! haha I have definitely embellished the original story and we have made it our own version for sure. Just recently we recorded this video of me telling the story...which was totally out of my comfort zone... I don't know how many times Brandon and I have laughed at the part of me smelling the apple pies!!! We have put together a little packet that contains the written out doghouse story, an illustrated keyboard in color as well as a coloring page with and without the note names and a blank keyboard for your students or children to come up with their own stories! You can access the free download HERE !
